I have had the privilege of exploring different spice markets around the world. However, nothing could have prepared me for the sensory overload I experienced in the spice markets of Egypt. The colors, the smells, and the hustle and bustle of the vendors left me feeling exhilarated and eager to discover new flavors.
It was in one of these markets where I first encountered coriander seed. Used extensively in Egyptian cuisine, coriander seed has a unique flavor profile that I had never experienced before.
As I explored more, I learned that coriander seed has been used for thousands of years in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking, and was even found in the tombs of ancient Egyptian pharaohs.
Incorporating this exotic spice into my own cooking has been a delight. Its warm, citrusy flavor adds depth and complexity to dishes, and pairs particularly well with fish and seafood.
